Artmaking is a fantastic way to express yourself. What better way to do that than by making your very own tiny sketchbook? Whether you're an experienced artist or just starting out, this tutorial will walk you through the steps to craft a charming little sketchbook that you can carry with you everywhere.

Arlington Free Little Art Gallery and I recently collaborated to offer free tiny sktechbook making kits, hoping to make artmaking accessible to more people. This collaboration also helped me out, as I could upcycle the paper edges I cut off from my printmaking art:

The Japanese philosophy of "You shall not waste" is ingrained in me!
I had to do something with these paper strips...

The book cover for the tiny sketchbooks are my gelli prints. Printmakers often end up having more mishap prints than satisfactory ones. Tiny bookmaking has been a great way for me to upcycle the prints.
Materials Needed

The above drawing shows what was included in the kit for Arlington Free Little Art Gallery.
Paper: Pick your favorite type of paper for the pages. You could use copy paper watercolor paper, sketch paper, recycled paper, etc. I have used brown lunch bags before too.
Cardstock for the cover: This will serve as the sturdy cover for your sketchbook. You can also use cereal box or any other thicker paper.
A needle and thread (20 inches long) to bind pages together
A thumbtack or safety pin to make a hole for binding
A pair of scissors and an Exacto knife (if you have one)
