This series was generated from my experience with an autoimmune disorder. As I managed the ups and downs of the illness for the past several years, I found comfort and hope within the layers of colors and symbolic mountains that emerged in my images. A girl figure represents myself as well as other women, since far more women are impacted by autoimmune disorders than men.

I created many of these artworks while I was working on my Autoimmune Narrative series. I felt the urge to create something colorful from time to time, most likely because my body was trying to offset itself as I worked on the Autoimmune Narrative series, which consisted of pieces mainly in black and neutral tones. The colorful pieces in the Layered Landscapes have been balancing my grief with hope, reminidng me that there is always more than one way to tell stories.
