I created many of these colorful artworks while I was working on my Autoimmune Narrative series, which consisted of pieces mainly in black and neutral tones. I felt the urge to create something brighter from time to time, most likely because my body was trying to offset itself as I worked in dark colors of the Autoimmune Narrative series. Within the layers of colors and symbolic mountains, a girl figure swims in and out as a representation of myself as well as other women, since far more women are impacted by autoimmune disorders than men.

 

The vibrant pieces in the Within Layers series have been balancing my grief with hope, reminidng me that there is always more than one way to tell stories.
